I would like to nominate a very special person for the DAISY Award. When I was confronted with my diagnosis of leukemia, my whole world suddenly fell apart. Ms. Brinkert impressed me with her outstanding professional competence – but what truly makes her special is her remarkable empathy and her open, positive nature. What has stayed with me most are the many small, loving gestures: her encouraging words, her hand holding mine when things were tough, the little handwritten notes she left on my lab results, a wooden tulip, as a sign that I cannot wither, and even a firm word, when that was exactly what I needed. Ms. Brinkert was not just a nurse – during this difficult time, she became my support and my person of trust. From the bottom of my heart, I wish for her dedication to be seen and appreciated. She truly lives nursing with all her heart – and that is exactly what the DAISY Award stands for.
