I am a nurse who works alongside Maddie. Maddie frequently goes above and beyond for her patients, but her dedication on a particular day helped save a young woman’s life. As a team, we were caring for a critically ill patient who was hemorrhaging due to esophageal varices.

This woman required a special piece of equipment called a Blakemore. This equipment is not used often, and as a result, nowhere in the hospital had the football helmet that was needed. While it may sound silly, the football helmet was needed, or else the flight crew at the bedside would not have been able to take off with the Blakemore in place, which was helping to stop the patient’s bleeding. Maddie drove to Dicks Sporting Goods and purchased the helmet and returned in 8 minutes. Her haste and dedication made all the difference in caring. Not many would pay $233.00 out of their own pocket for a patient.
