Mackenzie was our nurse for the first three days we were at Children's. These days were the most critical and uncertain for us, but through it all, Miss Mackenzie went above and beyond not only to skillfully attend to our daughter's medical needs but also to encourage us. Her warm smile and friendly demeanor were such a light in the dark days of dealing with my daughter's illness. On one specific occasion, I began to cry and worry about my daughter. Mackenzie played with my daughter to distract her, but also asked if I needed a moment. I will never forget that. Every night before leaving, she would make plans with my daughter for how they would spend the next day. So instead of worrying about blood draws and needles, she looked forward to playing with Miss Mackenzie. She is an incredible nurse who truly cares about her patients. I don't think we will ever forget her; in fact, my daughter asked about her today. We were so blessed to have her as our nurse in the PICU.
