I would like to nominate Mackenzie, my son's pulmonary nurse, for the DAISY Award. Caring for a child with a ventilator and tracheostomy can be overwhelming, frightening, and emotionally exhausting. Mackenzie has been a constant source of calm, reassurance, and compassion during some of the hardest moments of our journey. She is always prompt, attentive, and genuinely present, but what sets her apart is her heart. Mackenzie never makes us feel like just another patient or task; she makes us feel seen, supported, and understood. She takes the time to explain things clearly, answers questions patiently, and reassures us when the weight of it all feels overwhelming. Because of Mackenzie, we are reminded that we are not alone. She helps us feel confident as parents and caregivers and makes an incredibly complex and stressful situation feel manageable. Her kindness, dedication, and compassion go beyond her clinical duties and have had a profound impact on our family. Mackenzie truly embodies the spirit of nursing and the values of the DAISY Award.
