As she approached my husband for the first time with her beautiful smile and positive professional demeanor, it was the first time I had seen my husband smile warmly since May of this year.
I sat for quite a while trying to think about what to write that would express my gratitude and thankfulness. Then I realized that our exemplary experience was so much more than just the nursing care, but also the medical care that my husband received. It was also the compassionate, empathetic approach by Mabel that alleviated my worries and my husband's mild depression.
My husband’s story begins with a knee replacement that became infected. Without going into much detail, I will say it was a huge upset. The knee was "washed out," and a spacer was put in. We ended up in the ER at MountainView Hospital when my husband suddenly became very weak at home.
The minute Mabel walked into the room, she had a smile on her face that literally lit up the room. I remember thinking this is a nurse who likes being one. As she approached my husband for the first time with her beautiful smile and positive professional demeanor, it was the first time I had seen my husband smile warmly since May of this year.
Sometime after she left the room, he even commented that she was chipper, lively, and in good spirits. He appreciated her immensely. Later, he remarked that her clinical skills were excellent, and he liked that she explained what and why she was doing something.
There is not enough room here for me to write all of what I would like to say, so I will abbreviate. Mabel builds trust easily with patients. My impression is that her clinical skills are above average. She continually advocates for my husband, and she supports excellent teamwork. In my opinion, she also has leadership qualities. She is an outstanding role model for everyone she comes in contact with.
When I, the patient's wife, began to cry at one point, she noticed and took the time to care for me as well.
So, thank you for providing outstanding service, Mabel.
Congratulations, Mabel Brocato-Foster!
