Whenever patients need a higher level of care, when they face difficult choices, when barriers seem immovable, Ma. Christine Ong persists in providing compassionate, respectful and extraordinary care. Ma. Christine Ong deserves the DAISY Award not only for her care of one patient but also for her consistently competent, individualized care of all her patients.

It matters not whether the patient needs a little extra TLC, a lot of encouragement, is afraid, or even those who can challenge the limits; Christine approaches them with kindness and a gentle, caring approach.

Christine really takes the time to listen, check her understanding, teach, ask and answer questions, and create psychological safety. She establishes a meaningful relationship with patients, who tell me, “she is very thorough,” “she really cares about me,” “I can tell she really cares,” “She is not just about the tasks that need to be done, she tells you why.” And that’s just a handful of the comments.

Christine also stands out as a team member and colleague, often responding to requests for help with “Of course,” “My pleasure,” and other times just proactively answering a call bell when a colleague is busy. She is a trusted charge nurse and a knowledgeable resource to her colleagues whether in charge or not.

She exemplifies the kind of nurse I hope my family encounters when they need nursing care. Not only that, she cheerfully helps out wherever help is needed. You may have met her lately on OCU, D3, in EPOD, or any other floor where she picks up an extra shift – and she brings that same can-do attitude!

Most of all, she sets the tone for finding one’s own joy in work. She is fun and funny, and just all around amazing! Our patients love her and we count ourselves truly blessed and fortunate to have her on our team!

Thank you, Ma. Christine, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
