She went above and beyond to make him feel comfortable and loved.
My father was admitted to the ICU for a couple of days after experiencing a negative reaction to cancer treatments. He was very disorganized and unsteady, as well as having a few other medically related concerns. During this time, his dementia was very pronounced, and he felt very confused and sometimes afraid.
Lyn was assigned to work with my father and was exceptional in his care. She went above and beyond to make him feel comfortable and loved. She came in just to hold his hand for a period of time here and there. Lyn was patient with him during his moments of confusion and answered all of his numerous, repeated questions with the same energy as the first time they were asked. She laughed with him and cried with him.
Lyn was even concerned with me and my well-being, expressing a great deal of empathy and compassion for what was happening to my dad and what was coming next for us. I am a mental health provider and have worked for years in the medical field. I've worked in large hospitals in many different departments. I trained nurses in service excellence and patient compassion, and experience. I can say with complete confidence that this is one of the best nursing interactions I have ever witnessed.
To have had the ability to see her in action with my own father was more than I could have ever expected. Lyn is one of the best nurses I have ever seen, and I truly believe that she shows this much attentiveness and empathy to everyone who crosses her path professionally. What an exceptional professional. You are so lucky to have someone this talented on your team.
