The fortitude, strength, sympathy, and deep empathy Luke demonstrated during this event are above his role as a nurse.
Luke was the primary care nurse for a mom of two who was involved in an MVC where her husband died. The mom was a trauma patient who was being cared for by Luke during the initial trauma resuscitation and was found to be stable. The patient's 4-year-old little boy and 4-month-old infant daughter were being treated in the ED as trauma patients. The 4-year-old boy and his mom were found to be stable with non-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the 4-month-old infant was severely injured and taken to the OR.
During the course of the OR admission, the infant was not going to survive, and Luke facilitated having the mom go to the OR to say goodbye to her child. Luke supported his patient during this visit, providing a deep level of empathy, compassion, and kindness during her stay. The fortitude, strength, sympathy, and deep empathy Luke demonstrated during this event are above his role as a nurse. Luke's actions and support of his patient demonstrate how his character as a human makes the world a better place, even during a horrific personal experience.
