Our loved one, M, was a resident at Solvay Hospice, where he received exceptional care from every nurse who attended to him. Among them, Luke stood out in our hearts as truly extraordinary. Most notably, Luke cared for M throughout his entire shift on the day before M passed. In those final 24 hours, M required considerable hands-on care, and Luke was a steady, compassionate presence in his room. He continuously monitored M’s pain and behavior, adjusting and administering medications with precision and empathy. He spoke to M with a calm, firm kindness—always attuned to what each moment required—and handled him with both tenderness and strength. Luke was not only a caregiver to M but a source of comfort to our entire family. He gently guided us through the process, explaining what was happening with clarity and compassion. His presence brought peace during a time of profound sorrow. Luke exemplifies every quality we hope for in a hospice nurse: compassion, competence, knowledge, experience, kindness, humor, and attentiveness. Most importantly, he allowed M to die with dignity. We are forever grateful to Luke and to all the remarkable caregivers who supported M during his time at Solvay Hospice.
