What could have been an incredibly stressful day turned into one of the most memorable for all the right reasons, and this is in no small part due to Luisa and the rest of the team.
I've been meaning to share this far sooner, but luckily, the story is still as vivid today as it was back when our daughter was born early last year. We'd come in around 4:00 am, and at around 7:00 am, the staff we had were swapping shifts, and Luisa took over while we were in the labour ward.

Understandably, having had labour start at 1:00 am, by the time Luisa came in, my wife and I were exhausted, but she was kind and patient from the get-go, reassuring us every step of the way, chatting about movies, and even getting me coffee. Then, at around 2:00 pm, she very calmly looked at the monitors and said to me, "Can you just stand up and press that emergency button for me, please?"

I didn't stop to think, I just did as she said because there was no sign of worry or alarm in her voice, and she immediately put all her attention to my wife, giving her eye contact and a hand to hold while explaining our daughter's heart rate had dropped and whilst it had picked up again she wanted to get the consultants in. Cue 7 or 8 doctors and nurses joining us in the labour ward, which could've been unnerving, but Luisa and the others were so calm and collected in the way they explained things that we made the decision to go for the emergency C-section.

Luisa grabbed some scrubs for me and took me into the operating theatre so I could be with my wife. Everyone in that operating theatre was flawless, and it was a whirlwind few minutes that by the time we were being escorted back to the ward, we weren't able to thank Luisa personally. What could have been an incredibly stressful day turned into one of the most memorable for all the right reasons, and this is in no small part due to Luisa and the rest of the team.

I know Luisa and the others will think nothing of what they did; it's just part of the job, but thanks to her, we never once felt like we were in the dark or had anything undue to worry about, just allowing us to focus on finally being able to meet our daughter.
