I had the privilege of being under the care of Nurse Lucy during my 8-day stay at Swedish Cherry Hill after my triple heart bypass surgery. There are people we have all encountered in our lives who have had a profound impact on us. Nurse Lucy is that individual! The first word that comes to mind when I think of my care under Nurse Lucy is compassion! I had several unexpected issues and complications after the heart surgery, and Nurse Lucy took time to listen, evaluate, and explain the details of my medication and treatment procedures. Her clinical expertise and calm demeanor were evident. She demonstrated excellence and integrity in her words and actions.

Nurse Lucy provided support not just for me but for my wife, who is coping with the physical and emotional aspects of my health issues. Nurse Lucy was keenly attuned to a holistic approach to healthcare. She demonstrated integrity by taking care of her patients and creating a sense of trust in a short period of time. This comes naturally for her. During my stay, I observed Nurse Lucy working with a young trainee. I thought to myself that the trainee is so lucky to have such a knowledgeable and caring nurse to work with.

Lucy exemplifies the commitment, caring, and compassion demanded of a nursing career. In a world where resources are scarce and time is stretched in the medical arena, Nurse Lucy made me feel that I am a priority when she comes in to administer medication, monitor, or implement a medical procedure. Her positive and caring attitude goes a long way to comforting me during one of the roughest times of my life. For this, I am forever grateful. Nurse Lucy deserves to be recognized with the DAISY Award, as she exemplifies and embodies dedication, patient-centered care, a positive attitude, commitment, compassion, passion, integrity, and excellence in her field. She made a difference in my hospital stay experience, and I am sure that she touched the lives of others.
