She doesn’t just identify these opportunities; she actively helps close the gaps, improving processes and strengthening communication, all with the goal of enhancing patient care and safety.
Lucretia is an extraordinary Clinical Nurse Educator whose impact on our organization—especially on the night shift—cannot be overstated. She has thoughtfully created a consistent process to ensure she reaches every unit and care area during the night, making herself visible, accessible, and deeply connected to nurses who often feel unseen. Through her presence, she has built meaningful relationships with both night shift leaders and frontline nurses, grounded in respect, kindness, and a genuine commitment to their growth and well-being.

Her dedication to communication and continuous improvement is evident in The Night Owl newsletter, which she authors to share observations, trends, rounding insights, and updates specific to night shift practice. She also communicates key findings from her iRounds, thoughtfully identifying gaps in practice—such as the need for USGPIV training, opportunities for clustering care, strengthening delegation, and ensuring proper use of biohazard specimen bags in the lab. She doesn’t just identify these opportunities; she actively helps close the gaps, improving processes and strengthening communication, all with the goal of enhancing patient care and safety.

Lucretia shows outstanding dedication in ways that reflect true servant leadership. She regularly attends daytime meetings—often sacrificing her own rest—to ensure night shift perspectives are represented and integrated into broader organizational work. Her calm, steady presence brings reassurance and clarity, even in the most challenging situations. She has recently taken on the role of facilitator for the Night Shift Council, continuing to ensure the voice of the nightshift nurse is heard loud and clear

She is also a hands-on partner in problem-solving. When IV pumps were malfunctioning, Lucretia didn’t hesitate to step in—rounding across the hospital at night to assess, support, and ensure safe patient care. Her willingness to roll up her sleeves alongside staff demonstrates both humility and dedication. She recently also discovered a gap in practice with placing labs in biohazard specimen bags and has worked to clarify practice and educate the team.

Perhaps most importantly, Lucretia embodies compassion in every interaction. She is one of the kindest individuals you will meet, and her presence fosters a sense of calm, trust, and belonging. Because of her, our night shift teams feel supported, valued, and empowered.

We are incredibly grateful to have Lucretia on our team. She elevates everyone around her, and we are unquestionably stronger because of her leadership.
