I would like to recognize Lucille Woodard for her compassion and clinical expertise role-modeled for my clinical nursing students. Each semester, Lucille welcomes them to the GI Lab with a warm and spirited attitude. Although this is not a requirement, Lucille takes pride in mentoring them on the ins and outs of the department. Students look forward to the experience and joyfully tell their peers of the wonderful time they had.

Not only do they get to practice venipuncture, but they also get to observe various procedures and the workflow of the unit and staff. Lucille makes sure they are comfortable by introducing them to everyone, telling stories, and simply making things fun. She is extremely approachable and has been a huge part of their learning experience. I have read many positive notes in the students' weekly journals about their time with Lucille. One specifically said that it was the best time she ever had in any department at any facility.

Ms. Lucille remains committed to providing ULL students with enhanced learning opportunities. Each semester the students always comment on her ability to be patient, kind, and caring while educating them. She is exemplary as a nurse and serves as a role model for these students. In addition, she guides students to be leaders in the community as well. She mentors students and encourages them to be a part of the Acadiana Black Nurses Association. She is compassionate, she is skilled, and she performs at a high standard for her patients and mentors students.
