I have no idea what was going on. I could only hear Lucien's voice for 20-30 minutes, gently, clearly, encouragingly guiding his patient through something that was clearly very difficult for the patient.
I’m a cancer patient and have spent a lot of the last year in medical settings, and am everlastingly struck by the incredible caring, professionalism, and compassion of medical providers. I've been in the ER for 3 days (waiting for a hospital bed that's never going to materialize hehehe), which has given me a front row seat to witness the excellence of the nursing staff here over multiple shifts. This is an incredibly challenging environment. One nurse has really stood out to me. His name is Lucien Jean Louis. He was my first nurse during my stay, and he did a great job. Over the last couple of days, I've had the opportunity to see the joy, gentleness, and warmth he brings to his patients and coworkers every day. Today, I was blown away hearing him lead a very lengthy intervention with one of his patients in a nearby room. I have no idea what was going on. I could only hear Lucien's voice for 20-30 minutes, gently, clearly, encouragingly guiding his patient through something that was clearly very difficult for the patient. Every direction and encouragement he gave was patient and focused on his patients' well-being, as well as their physical and emotional needs. I was so impressed with what I heard, I had to ask around "who is R's nurse," and it was Lucien! he has an incredible gift for kindness and care. Please give this man an award. In a department of outstanding nurses, he's a shining star.
