It is with deep admiration and heartfelt gratitude that I nominate Lorrie Batson for the DAISY Award. After more than 30 years of unwavering service to UNC Nash Healthcare Systems, she will soon retire, leaving behind a profound legacy of compassion, leadership, and selfless dedication. Throughout her distinguished career, she has embodied the very essence of nursing—delivering exceptional care with grace, humility, and a profound sense of purpose. She is not only a skilled and devoted clinician but also a trusted mentor and an inspiring leader, both within our hospital and the broader community. Her presence has touched the lives of countless patients, families, and colleagues, always offering a kind word, a helping hand, or simply a moment of support. She gives of herself wholeheartedly, never seeking recognition or reward, driven solely by her commitment to serve others.
Lorrie is a true friend to all, and she has never met a stranger. Her loyalty to her patients, coworkers, friends, and community is unwavering. Her impact extends far beyond our hospital walls. She actively volunteers with her church and her beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, where she continues to uplift and empower others through service.
Her tireless efforts and positive spirit have brought comfort and hope to many, and her retirement marks the end of an era for those fortunate enough to have worked beside her. In honoring the DAISY Foundation’s mission to express gratitude to nurses through meaningful recognition, I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Lorrie Batson. Her legacy of kindness, leadership, and compassion will continue to inspire us all for years to come. We will forever miss hearing “Today is my Friday.”
