September 2026 Honoree
Lorie Faustin, RN
Lorie was an absolute delight to have as my nurse. After an unexpected 11-day hospital stay and four emergency surgeries, I finally became her patient when I was moved from the ICU to a regular room. By that point, my hair hadn’t been washed in days, and there was a significant amount of dried blood tangled in the back of it from one of my procedures where they had to access an artery through my neck. Lorie went completely above and beyond for me. She spent nearly three hours carefully washing the blood out of my hair and working through all of the tangles. She absolutely did not have to do that, but she never once made me feel like it was a burden. She did it patiently and with a smile on her face the entire time.
After everything I had been through, having clean, brushed hair may seem like such a small thing, but to me it was huge. It helped me feel like myself again and gave me a little piece of normalcy after some of the scariest days of my life. Lorie showed me that nursing is about so much more than medical care. Her kindness, patience, and willingness to go the extra mile meant more to me than she will ever know. I will always remember what she did for me, and she is absolutely deserving of the DAISY Award.
