Lori Johnson, ADN, RN
My wife and I had an incredible experience with Lori as our nurse, and we truly believe she deserves to be recognized with a DAISY Award.
Lori is typically a NICU nurse but was floated to the West Wing Pediatrics unit that day. Before she even cared for our daughter, that demonstrated her flexibility, professionalism, and willingness to step in wherever she was needed.
From the moment Lori walked into our room, she recognized how overwhelmed and exhausted my wife and I were after several incredibly stressful days. Instead of focusing only on the medical tasks, she took the time to care for our entire family. She gently encouraged my wife to take care of herself, reminding her that she needed to be healthy in order to be there for our daughter. She then took over caring for our baby—changing her diaper, feeding her, and comforting her—so that my wife and I could finally take a moment to breathe and decompress. That act of kindness meant more to us than she probably realizes. For the first time in days, we felt like we could step back, collect ourselves, and trust that our daughter was in exceptional hands.
Throughout the rest of her shift, Lori continued to go above and beyond. She patiently taught me better feeding techniques to help our daughter feed more effectively and never made us feel rushed or like our questions were a burden. She combined outstanding clinical knowledge with genuine compassion, making us feel supported, heard, and cared for during one of the most difficult times of our lives.
Lori didn't just provide excellent nursing care—she cared for our entire family. Her kindness, empathy, and willingness to go above and beyond transformed an incredibly stressful day into one filled with hope, comfort, and confidence. We will always remember the difference she made for us, and we are incredibly grateful that she was our nurse.
