What stood out most was her humility and teamwork.
During a particularly challenging shift on the med-surg unit, we encountered a patient with complex anatomy who required a Foley catheter insertion. After multiple unsuccessful attempts and increasing patient discomfort, we reached out to the Labor & Delivery unit for assistance. Without hesitation, Loni responded to our call.
Although this situation was outside her usual scope of practice, Loni arrived with a calm, confident demeanor and a compassionate presence that immediately reassured both the patient and our team. She took the time to explain the procedure to the patient in a gentle and respectful manner, ensuring they felt safe and heard. Her clinical expertise was evident as she skillfully and successfully inserted the urinary catheter, minimizing further discomfort and preventing the need for more invasive interventions.
What stood out most was her humility and teamwork. She never made us feel inadequate or judged for needing help. Instead, she treated the situation as a shared challenge and an opportunity to support fellow nurses and provide the best care possible for the patient. Loni exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her clinical excellence, compassionate care, and unwavering commitment to collaboration.
Her willingness to step outside her unit and lend her expertise made a significant difference in a patient’s experience and reminded us of all of the power of nursing teamwork. We are incredibly grateful for her support and proud to work alongside such a dedicated and skilled nurse.
