She has been able to recognize his “normal” patterns and behaviors and has been sure to mention it to the providers if he hasn’t seemed like “himself”.
We arrived at Children's Nebraska NICU after our son was transferred from another facility and immediately underwent emergency surgery on his 20th day of life. We met LittleBit on our 3rd day here - emotions were incredibly high, the questions we had were endless, the information we had been given was overwhelming, and most of all, we were scared for what the next few days would hold. LittleBit met us with incredible kindness, compassion, and understanding. I distinctly remember looking to her for the daily update and bracing myself for the flood of terminology I didn’t yet understand and information overload, but instead she said, “I understand you really just want to know the big issues, so here’s what’s going on…” And she really explained it in a way that was easy to understand, and she was willing to answer any further questions we had to help us better understand our son's plan of care. When we walked out of the hospital that night, my husband and I both agreed that we felt our son was in great hands and hoped we would get to have LittleBit again, and to our surprise, we were able to have her as our nurse the next two days. Again, she met us each day with compassion and kindness.
As the weeks have progressed, we’ve been lucky to have LittleBit consistently as our nurse and really get to know our son. She has been able to recognize his “normal” patterns and behaviors and has been sure to mention it to the providers if he hasn’t seemed like “himself”. While I was home for the weekend, I called to ask for an update, and LittleBit had noticed he was sleeping more than usual. She reassured me that everything else was looking good, but she wanted to mention it to the providers anyway. That made me feel comfortable and took away a lot of the stress from being away from him. Our son has experienced some complications with his care, being that some medical equipment isn’t made for tiny bodies, and LittleBit has spent hours trying to make our son comfortable and thinking of out-of-the-box solutions to resolve these complications. LittleBit has truly made a positive impact on our NICU experience, and it is something we will never forget. We know that every child she cares for is in such kind and loving hands.
