Lisa Cox is an extraordinary person, leader, educator, and advocate. I have worked with Lisa only since the opening of our new Atrium Health Lake Norman facility, but in that time, I have been privileged to witness the model of what an Atrium Health leader should be. Her kindness extends not only to patients but also to the staff that is under her leadership and her peers. She treats every individual she encounters with respect and dignity, without judgment, and she handles stressful situations with such grace that it can only be met with astonishment.

An example of this remarkable energy Lisa carries is a taxing situation in which a patient was unhappy with their care here at Lake Norman. This patient gave staff a difficult time, telling them in an impolite manner that their care was not up to their standards and that they did not feel they were being listened to. Lisa willingly entered the room and commanded it, stating her name and job role, and asking how she might be of service. Lisa spent over an hour in the room giving the patient a bath, listening to the patient's needs, and following up the next day to make sure the patient felt hard, comfortable, and safe. In turn, this patient left the hospital happy and without further complaints.

This is only one small example of the impact Lisa Cox has had on the Atrium community as a whole. Lisa has been with Atrium Health for almost 27 years and, in doing so, has been a pillar of Atrium Health's commitments. Lisa truly does lift everyone up, even on her hardest days, think boldly in critical situations, lead the way when others may be lost, and embrace the unknown with confidence.
