September 2026 Honoree
Lindsey Bednarchuk, RN
I am honored to commend Lindsey Bednarchuk, who did far more than care for my baby; she changed our lives. When my daughter was admitted to the NICU, our world stopped. Those days were filled with fear, uncertainty, and a kind of vulnerability that is hard to put into words. In the middle of that, Lindsey was a constant not just as a nurse, but as a source of comfort, strength, and peace. She didn't just monitor vitals or complete tasks. She saw us. She cared for her with such tenderness and intention, and she cared for me as a mother who was trying to hold it all together.
But her care didn't stop with me; she embraced my entire family. She showed love and kindness to my husband and to my stepdaughter, making them feel included, supported, and important during a time that could have easily left them feeling pushed aside. Lindsey has a way of creating a sense of community in a space where parents often feel lost and alone. She brought warmth into that NICU room. Because of her, we didn't feel like just another family walking through something terrifying; we felt seen, known, and not alone.
One moment, in particular, will stay with me for the rest of my life. After three weeks in the NICU, I still had not been able to hold or truly touch my daughter. Lindsey advocated for me in a way no one else had. Because of her, I was finally able to hold my baby girl for the first time. The very next day, we received the devastating news that our daughter was dying due to severe brain bleeds. That moment of holding her that single day became one of the most sacred memories of my life. And it only happened because Lindsey spoke up, took action, and made it possible.
There are no words to fully express what that gift means to me as a mother. My heart will forever be grateful. But what makes Lindsey truly extraordinary is that her impact did not end when we left the NICU. Over a year later, she is still showing up in our lives in meaningful ways. She recommended a dance studio for my older daughter, a place that has since become an incredible blessing. She is now thriving, growing in confidence, and finding so much joy, and that piece of our lives traces back to Lindsey.
Most recently, in the middle of a stressful week where I was overwhelmed, working, and trying to prepare my daughter for a dance program, I reached out to her in a moment of panic. Without hesitation, Lindsey stepped in and offered to help take on the task of preparing my daughter’s costumes so they would be ready in time. It may seem like a small act, but in that moment, it was everything. It was grace. It was support. It was being cared for, again, when I needed it most. She has a way of making people feel seen, valued, and never alone, not just in the hospital, but long after.
As a nurse myself, I know the demands of this profession. I know how much is asked of us. And that is what makes Lindsey's care even more remarkable. She goes beyond what is required. She builds connections that last. She carries her patients and their families with her in a way that is deeply human and profoundly impactful. She didn't just care for my baby. She gave me a moment I will carry with me for the rest of my life. She cared for my heart, my family, and our healing. And more than a year later, she is still making a difference in our lives. That is what nursing is meant to be. Lindsey is more than deserving of this recognition, not just for what she does, but for who she is.
