Her kindness and compassion made me feel truly seen as a person, not just a patient.
I am writing to nominate Lindsey Thomson for the DAISY Award in recognition of the outstanding care she provided to me during my stay in the hospital while I was hospitalized for pancreatitis. From the moment I arrived, she went above and beyond to ensure that I felt supported, comfortable, and respected, even though I was far from home in Salt Lake City. She answered all of my questions and was patient and thorough in her responses, helping me understand every aspect of my treatment. She provided practical help such as gathering toiletries, prepping me for showers, making sure my phone was charged, and bringing me extra broth. She also took the time to talk with me when I experienced moments of severe emotional distress. Her kindness and compassion made me feel truly seen as a person, not just a patient. When I was in pain and feeling nauseous, she advocated on my behalf so I could receive the relief I needed. She also worked tirelessly to secure the MRI I required by speaking with the doctors, which was critical for my care. In addition, she accommodated me in meaningful ways, including allowing me to stand and salute when the flag was presented to honor a fellow patient who had passed away. As a disabled combat war veteran, that moment of respect meant a great deal to me.
Beyond her medical duties, her empathy and genuine human connection stood out. She talked with me about off-roading and showed real interest in my work as the CMO of a company. Her willingness to learn about my life outside the hospital walls reminded me of who I am and helped me feel less isolated. In short, she demonstrated the very best qualities of a nurse: professional excellence, compassionate advocacy, and heartfelt understanding. Because of her, my hospital stay felt infinitely more bearable and dignified. I am profoundly grateful for Lindsey Thomson and her exceptional care, and I hope you will consider her for the DAISY Award. She exemplifies the dedication and heart that define the nursing profession.
