I am pleased to commend Nurse Lindie Caffrey for her extraordinary nursing care, compassion, professionalism, and dedication to veterans.

I suffered a deep laceration to the back of my left calf. My mother-in-law and I immediately provided first aid. My mother-in-law drove me to the Emergency Department at the Eastern Kansas VA Medical Center. While emergency situations are often stressful and uncertain, Lindie transformed what could have been a difficult experience into one that demonstrated the very best of nursing care.

From the moment we arrived, Nurse Caffrey provided prompt, high-quality care while maintaining a calm and reassuring presence. She immediately assessed my condition and ensured that I received timely treatment. Her clinical competence was evident throughout my visit, but what truly set her apart was the way she connected with patients on a personal level.

Despite the seriousness of my injury, Nurse Caffrey used appropriate humor to lighten the mood and ease anxiety. Her ability to bring comfort and encouragement during a stressful situation made a significant difference in my experience. She also took the time to compliment both my mother-in-law and me for the immediate first aid measures we had taken before arriving at the hospital. Those simple words of encouragement reinforced that our actions had helped and demonstrated her appreciation for patient involvement in care.

Nurse Caffrey possesses an outstanding personality and a genuine friendliness that immediately puts people at ease. Throughout my treatment, she consistently checked my status, ensuring that I was comfortable and receiving the best possible care. Her attention to detail and commitment to patient well-being never wavered. I never felt like just another patient. Instead, I felt that she was personally invested in my recovery and determined to ensure a positive outcome.

One action demonstrated a level of dedication that went far beyond normal expectations. After my treatment was completed, Nurse Caffrey personally escorted me to the pharmacy to ensure that I obtained the medications I needed. She did not simply provide directions or assume someone else would assist. She took personal responsibility for making sure that every aspect of my care was completed successfully.

What impressed me most, however, occurred after my emergency room visit. Several days later, while I was at the VA Medical Center, Nurse Caffrey recognized me and personally checked on my recovery status. That simple act spoke volumes about her character and commitment to patient care. At the time she checked on me, my primary care team had not yet followed up regarding my injury. Nurse Caffrey’s concern for my well-being extended beyond the emergency room encounter and demonstrated a genuine compassion that cannot be taught.

Lindie Caffrey exemplifies the values of the nursing profession and serves as an outstanding representative of the Eastern Kansas VA Medical Center. Her professionalism, compassion, dedication, and commitment to veterans reflect the highest standards of nursing excellence. She consistently goes above and beyond what is expected to ensure that veterans receive exceptional care and support.
