Over the past 12 days, my wife has been a patient in the JRMC Intensive Care Unit. Many of these days, she was incapable of verbal communication and often very confused about her status and surroundings.
During her stay, she has been cared for by numerous nurses and doctors; many have provided outstanding care and compassion. There has been one nurse, Lexy, who has shown compassion and skills that no others could match. Her bedside manner and outstanding attention to my wife and family are something that I will always remember and cherish.
Even during those times when my wife could not understand or comprehend, Lexy took the time to sit and talk with her and explain what she was doing or what was occurring with her treatment. She did this for the benefit of her patient and our family. I work in a health care facility similar in size to JRMC and routinely am involved with our nursing staff. At no time have I ever observed the level of care, compassion, dedication, and love that this young lady provided.
Having spent many hours at my wife's bedside during her illness, it has been remarkable to see how Lexy, as probably the youngest member of the nursing staff, is continually looked to for leadership from her team members. Our family is grateful for the outstanding care that has been provided to my wife, and special thanks to Lexy for her exceptional care and commitment.
