I came into the hospital for heart surgery (Mitral Valve Repair/Replacement) on Monday. To say I was anxious is an understatement. At 42 years old, I had never been sick, let alone hospitalized. I met Leonilyn after leaving the ICU. I was in pain and suffering from the repercussions of being given lots of laxatives, which was not fun at all.  Leonilyn exemplified the highest standard of nursing care, consistently demonstrating compassion, dedication, and professionalism.

A few aspects of her care that I particularly admired were her ability to explain everything clearly, providing detailed information about the medications I was given. She advocated for me to my doctor, and she has extensive knowledge of her trade. From the moment she entered the room, I felt reassured and cared for, just like a mother would. Her ability to connect with me on a personal level, making me feel like family, while providing exceptional medical care. Leonilyn went above and beyond to ensure that I received the attention and support that I desperately needed, comforting me with her vibrant smile and jokes.

Every time I stepped out of bed, she fixed the blankets and pillows. Leonilyn always ensured that I washed my hands or provided m with sanitizer after using the restroom to decrease chances of infection she said. If I needed anything, she got it for me, but mostly she was my emotional support during my stay at TGH. Her upbeat personality and sense of humor were integral to my recovery. It is with great admiration and respect that I nominate Leonilyn for the DAISY Award. Her contributions to our healthcare community are invaluable, and she truly deserves this recognition.
