We truly believe that Leeah’s dedication, compassion, and attention to detail played a significant role in his recovery. Because of her, we get to have our dad back.
We are writing as a family to recognize Nurse Leeah for the extraordinary care she provided to our father and to our entire family during the most traumatic and uncertain time of our lives.
Around 6:30 pm, our father suddenly went into cardiac arrest at home. Within minutes, our lives were turned upside down. He became unresponsive, stopped breathing, and had no pulse. CPR was started immediately, while 911 was called. When EMS arrived, our dad required multiple shocks, was intubated, and placed on life support.
He was first taken to the Northwest Emergency Room, where a code was actively in progress when we arrived, and we truly believed we were losing our father. After stabilization, he was transferred to Doctors Regional ICU, where his condition remained critical, and his prognosis was poor.
By Thursday, faced with the possibility that he might not survive, we made the heartbreaking decision to fly our younger sister in so she could be with him. As a family, we were overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty, preparing for the worst.
During this time in the ICU, Nurse Leeah assumed care of our father and remained with him for five consecutive days. From the beginning, she demonstrated an extraordinary level of attention, skill, and dedication. She closely monitored every change, advocated for our father, and ensured he received the highest level of care possible.
What truly distinguished Leeah was the compassion she showed, not only to our father, but to our entire family. She explained complex information clearly during moments when we could barely process what was happening. She showed compassion when we were breaking, patience when we were scared, and kindness when we felt helpless. She treated our father with dignity and respect during his most vulnerable moments and made us feel supported every step of the way.
What once felt hopeless has now turned into hope. He has been extubated, is recovering, and is now expected to receive a defibrillator and eventually return home. We truly believe that Leeah’s dedication, compassion, and attention to detail played a significant role in his recovery. Because of her, we get to have our dad back.
Leeah did not just care for a patient; she carried an entire family through the darkest days of our lives. We will be forever grateful for her.
