Leah took it upon herself to develop a system of communication for this young woman that has the potential to literally open up the world to her again.
Our patient is a young woman who recently lost the ability to see after being deaf for several years due to her neurological condition. Despite this, the young woman exhibits a sparkling contentment and determination to overcome. While under Leah's care, she discovered that the only means we have had to communicate with her is by slowly drawing letters in her palm with our fingers.
Leah had a hot glue gun delivered to the hospital and developed an immaculate, tactile means of learning braille utilizing index cards. She carefully wrote uncial letters in the center of the card with the braille corollary in the upper right-hand corner. The patient may never see again. Leah took it upon herself to develop a system of communication for this young woman that has the potential to literally open up the world to her again. This is a remarkable example of diligence, creativity, and beneficence, addressing needs far beyond her 12-hour shift.
