Laurie Percy, RN

When my family arrived at Corewell Health, we were taken into a small room where the chaplain and physician began explaining that my dad had suffered a sudden heart attack. When we entered my dad’s room, Laurie greeted us with the kindest smile. Before we could be at his side, she had already been caring for him with tenderness and compassion. She gently rubbed his arm and hand in the same loving way we would have. Laurie did not just care for my dad that day—she cared for our entire family as we faced the heartbreaking reality that he would not survive.

As we were making the most difficult decision imaginable, Laurie was being sent to another area. Rather than simply leaving, she asked her manager if there was any way she could stay with us. That act of compassion meant more than words can express.

I cannot thank Laurie enough for her kind heart, understanding, and genuine compassion. I cannot imagine the strength it takes to do her job, but she was truly phenomenal for my family on the worst day of our lives. Her calm, caring presence transformed a painful first impression into one of comfort. Most importantly, she gave my dad dignity, love, and tenderness in his final moments.
