The translator stayed for a short period of time, however, Lauren assisted so that Mom could continue to watch her baby and Mom did for 3 hours on Zoom.
We had a Hispanic mom who spoke no English who delivered on Friday night. She was COVID Positive and very sick. While her baby went to Mother/Baby (MB) she had to be admitted to AICU. On Saturday the mom really wanted to see her baby so the MB charge nurse set up the Zoom in the baby's room and coordinated with the mom's AICU nurse and the translator so that if mom had questions, they could be answered. The translator stayed for a short period of time, however, the AICU nurse assisted so that Mom could continue to watch her baby and Mom did for 3 hours on Zoom.

On Sunday, Mom was deteriorating and they wanted her to be able to touch her baby so MB transferred the baby in the isolette to see the mom. Mom improved and did not have to be placed on the ventilator. They brought the baby to Mom again on Monday prior to the baby going home with Dad. Mom continued to improve.

The nurse who had this mother on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was Lauren Zito. Lauren's manager says that she always goes above and beyond for her patients. Lauren was a nurse on MB prior to transferring to AICU. (So Lauren worked well with the MB nurses to set the Zoom up) During the COVID Pandemic, Lauren worked extra many times when there was an overflow of medical patients on the medical floor.
