LCDR Lauren Suszan, Phase II Director of Clinical Education, RNA Program LCDR Suszan has been an integral independent anesthesia provider for the NMRTC Portsmouth and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital Anesthesia Department as a Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) Assistant Professor. She has supported both departments in the maintenance of clinical services during deployments and the COVID-19 pandemic response. Beyond her clinical role as a CRNA, LCDR Suszan has led the clinical education of 77 Air Force, Army, and Navy Nurse Anesthesia students at GSN as the Director of Clinical Education. In the past two years, she coordinated the addition of 8 new enrichment sites to maintain clinical training opportunities during COVID restrictions and to prepare the program for an increase in case requirements by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs. LCDR Suszan oversaw the redesign of the GSN RNA Program’s 5 clinical simulations, 5 oral boards, and the daily clinical evaluation assessment tool to evidence-based methodology. LCDR Suszan’s tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in 77 SRNAs meeting minimum case numbers to ensure timely graduation and a return to the military services as independent advanced practice providers ready to meet mission requirements.
