Lauren Lawson is an amazing nurse. She is the type of nurse we all strive to be: compassionate, hardworking, fair, and bright.

Today I was genuinely touched by her actions. My patient was alone with her two very young daughters with her in her labor room. She was waiting for a family member to come sit with the children, as she was in early labor and would soon be unable to care for the children by herself.

From the get-go, it was very apparent that these two little girls and their mother have lived a very hard life with experiences that most of us could never imagine.

A situation arose that pulled me, as the primary nurse, in a million directions. Lauren was kind enough to ask me what she could do to help me. I gratefully responded, “Can you please give my patient an allergy bracelet?”

When I walked back into my patient’s room, I saw Lauren, sitting on the couch, helping feed the young girls their dinner so that their mom could rest. I will never be able to adequately express her kindness towards these two little girls. She was so selfless and attentive towards them.

She went as far as to child-proof the labor room and help pick up some of the chaos that only a 3-year-old and a 2-year-old could leave behind in a matter of minutes.

Lauren has an incredible ability to make anyone that she encounters feel seen and cared for, and today was no exception. I witnessed firsthand how such a simple act of kindness can touch even the smallest of hearts. How transformative the care of a loving nurse can be
