It was impressive the lengths necessary to place my beautiful boy in my arms in a chair next to the bed, but she did it.
Lauren worked with our son for a number of days when he was last inpatient. End-stage lung failure rendered his amazing providers unable to do anything more from a medical standpoint. I sat at N's bedside absolutely devastated by this news. He was too big for me to climb into bed next to him and was hooked up to every machine and line possible. I rhetorically told Lauren, "I just want to hold my baby." Not expecting anything tangible to come from the request. And she made it her business to see to it that it would happen. It was impressive the lengths necessary to place my beautiful boy in my arms in a chair next to the bed, but she did it. Thinking back on that time before he died is heartbreaking, and yet, because of the kindness of so many, including Lauren, I have wonderful, cherished moments to reflect on, too. She did her job, yes! And she went above and beyond to address his need to be held, and for me to hold him.
