I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude to Lauren Fletcher, a midwife who provided exceptional, compassionate, and patient-centred care during the birth of my baby girl.

I first met Lauren in triage after learning that my waters had broken and I would need to stay overnight in the hospital. I was upset and anxious, but Lauren immediately comforted me with genuine kindness and reassurance. During that brief encounter, Lauren built a strong rapport with me and helped me feel safe, valued, and cared for. I believe this is a true example of patient-centred care.

The morning after an intense night, I was relieved to learn that Lauren would be my midwife in the delivery suite. Throughout my labour, she guided me with patience, expertise, and compassion. She took the time to explain each step, allowing me to make informed decisions about pain relief and ensuring I understood how to use the Entonox and later the Remifentanil PCA safely and effectively.

Lauren respected my birth plan entirely, supporting my choices and always putting my needs and preferences first. Her calm presence, professionalism, and communication were outstanding. She anticipated my needs, offered encouragement, and treated both my husband and me with utmost respect. Her ability to balance clinical excellence with emotional support reflects the very best of your Trust's values.

Lauren went above and beyond her role in a moment of crisis. As she left to go on her lunch break, my baby's heart rate dropped, and the emergency buzzer was pressed. Lauren heard the alarm and immediately returned to the room, unwilling to leave me in such a vulnerable moment. That selfless act demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication and compassion. Seeing her return filled me with relief and trust.

Shortly after, my baby was safely delivered, and I cannot thank Lauren enough for staying by my side. Even after delivery, Lauren's care remained meticulous. She stitched me up with great precision, ensuring my recovery was smooth and free from complications. Her skill and attention to detail had a lasting positive impact on my physical healing and emotional well-being.

I would also like to mention that this experience at Birmingham Women's Hospital was far more positive than my first labour, and Lauren completely restored my faith in midwifery. She had a profound impact on my family and me, transforming what could have been a frightening experience into one of strength and empowerment.

Lauren truly embodies the Trust's values of excellence, compassion, integrity, and most importantly, putting patients first. Lauren is, without doubt, an asset to your hospital. She represents everything the DAISY Award stands for, including exceptional clinical skill and extraordinary humanity.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have been under her care and sincerely hope she is recognised for the outstanding difference she makes to patients every day.
