In the middle of a crisis, she somehow made them feel safe.
It’s hard to find the right words to fully capture just how special Lauren is — not just as a nurse, but as a human being. I am writing this nomination with a full heart, because Lauren has touched the lives of so many in our ward, including mine, in ways that go far beyond what anyone could ever expect.

One moment that will stay with me forever was the day a patient was admitted with severe breathing difficulties. The situation was intense — alarms sounding, urgent decisions being made, and a family standing nearby, wide-eyed and overwhelmed. While the clinical team focused on the immediate medical needs, Lauren saw something else: a family in quiet panic. Without hesitation, she stepped in. She knelt beside them and explained everything with such calm and care — who was in the room, what was being done, and why it was happening.

In the middle of a crisis, she somehow made them feel safe. I watched as their shoulders dropped, their breathing slowed, and tears came — not from fear, but from relief. That’s the power of Lauren’s presence. She doesn’t just care for the patient — she cares for the whole situation, wrapping the family in reassurance and compassion, bringing light into the darkest moments. This is “We Care” in action, demonstrated at the highest level.

What means the most to me personally is how Lauren has supported me through my own health struggles. She truly saw me when I was trying to keep going, even while I was physically and emotionally drained. She checked in quietly, offered help without me needing to ask, and made sure I never felt alone. I will never forget the way she listened when I needed to talk, or simply sat with me when I didn’t have the words. She gave me strength I didn’t know I had. In this, Lauren lives our value of “We Value People” — she recognises the individual, respects their humanity, and gives them dignity and kindness.

Lauren does not do any of this for recognition — she does it because it is who she is. She leads with her heart, and her care is deeply felt by everyone lucky enough to cross her path: patients, families, colleagues, and friends. She supports her colleagues as much as her patients, always stepping in when needed, always willing to share knowledge, encouragement, or simply a kind word. She truly embodies “We Are One Team”. To say she goes above and beyond doesn’t feel like enough. Lauren is the kind of nurse who makes you believe in the true meaning of compassion in healthcare — and she is a shining example of our Trust Values in action every single day.
