September 2026 Honoree
Lauren Carlie, BSN, RN, C-EFM
Lauren recently hosted several skills events at Doctor's Hospital. She incorporated the staff into the skills fair by having each person present a skill and a hands-on event. For each person, she shared resources available from education (Dynamic Health, HealthStream, content repository, and other resources available to bedside staff).
Throughout the process, she got to know so much about each nurse, and before each person's skill, she played their favorite song, gave fun facts about each person, their favorite food, pet's name, and skills that they were really great at, and hyped the staff up by relaxing them for the skill. She was each nurse's personal Bruce Buffer as she announced the nurse, and everyone cheered for each nurse.
After the skill, she sent each staff member with an envelope filled with nice comments about the nurse from all the other staff members in attendance, as well as what they enjoy about working with that nurse. She took the time with each person to pour knowledge into the staff on where to find resources, get to know what is important to them, and sent them away with not only nursing knowledge but with encouragement and uplifting comments from each person who did the skill with them.
When the nurses arrived, they were nervous, but one nurse said: "This is the best skills fair I have ever been to; I am having so much fun."
She is a wonderful educator and takes tasks, skills, and learning events and turns them into a creative, fun learning event that is enjoyed by all in attendance.
Thank you, Lauren, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
