A very critical patient was admitted from the ED. The moment the patient and family arrived in ICU, this nurse showed complete compassion and respect. The decision was made to make the patient comfortable. After the discussion, the patient perked up and had one request: donuts and vanilla ice cream. She went above and beyond to find the patient donuts. The cafeteria was closed, so she went to Scooters. With her own money, this nurse bought the patient mini donuts. She then got her some vanilla ice cream to go with the donuts. The patient was so happy. The patient and family didn't see all the behind-the-scenes efforts she went to for one of the patient's last wishes. This nurse truly demonstrates what it means to be a DAISY Nurse. Her empathy and compassion shine through her care each and every shift.
