I endured a trauma, but so did everyone who loves me. She was there for us all.
I was in bad shape. I had a UTI, kidney stones, a 105-degree fever, and was in septic shock. I wasn’t close to home; I was visiting my sister in New Jersey, but I am from Florida. I was very sick and very scared, that is, until Laura came to the rescue.

Somehow, the second she said, “Hi, I’m your nurse, Laura,” I knew I was in caring, capable hands. And I was right.

Laura didn’t just take care of me during my four days in the CCU; she cared about me. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible, changed my sheets and gown, adjusted me in the bed as needed (often… I kept slipping down), and helped me with hygiene with dignity. Of course, she managed all of my medical needs as well, which were vast.

In addition, Laura was a bright light, amazing to talk to, with a great sense of humor, and was very reassuring when I was seeking answers.

My entire family (my sister, brother-in-law, husband, and son) all loved Laura as much as I did. She was such a comfort to them. I endured a trauma, but so did everyone who loves me. She was there for us all.

I had lots of wonderful nurses and doctors at St. Barnabas, but Laura stands out. I’ll never forget her. I can’t say I’ll miss my days in the hospital, but I already miss my extraordinary nurse.
