Laura's passion for neonatal surgery and her genuine care for the families she serves are evident in her work. She is dedicated, compassionate, and an expert in her field.
Laura is a nurse with 10 years of experience on the neonatal surgical ward, and has demonstrated remarkable expertise and commitment. She quickly progressed from a staff nurse to a junior sister, leading the ward as nurse in charge. Her dedication to the ward and the babies is truly astonishing. Nurses on neonatal surgery must acquire a diverse range of skills and knowledge, including caring for babies with conditions such as gastroschisis, oesophageal atresia, congenital bowel conditions, and Pierre Robin syndrome, to name a few. Laura not only mastered the knowledge and skills required to provide excellent care for babies and families but also took on the responsibility of educating the neonatal surgical ward, leading the team as nurse in charge, and now working on the surgical outreach team, offering surgical advice and expert care to surgical babies in local neonatal units.
Recently, Laura spearheaded a quality project to streamline care and reduce the length of stay for babies with pyloric stenosis. She also provides antenatal counselling to families whose babies may require future surgery. Additionally, she has recently stepped up to help herself as ward manager, taking on more managerial tasks in a senior leadership role. Laura's passion for neonatal surgery and her genuine care for the families she serves are evident in her work. She is dedicated, compassionate, and an expert in her field. She has a positive impact on the team by offering expertise, support, training, and education in niche skills needed to look after our vulnerable neonates and families. Not only surgical care, but also neonatal care, family integrated care, and breastfeeding support. She gives the parents confidence to care for their babies and puts their minds at rest with realistic expectations and support.
