Laura surprised me twice by coming in on her day off to work on my hair. It took her quite a few times before my hair was unknotted.
I had been hospitalized at RWJ in Rahway with non-COVID pneumonia and was transferred to JFK Rehab a month later because I couldn't walk. I was in a bad place. A single mom of a 14-year-old boy, my only immediate family, my brother, just recovering from cancer, so not many visitors. Then my angel nurse, Laura, comes into my room. She sees the matted mess my hair is and decided to make it her mission to fix my hair. She would stay after her shifts to begin brushing the knots out. She couldn't believe that the nurses at the other hospital didn't try to brush my hair while I was so sick. Laura helped me feel better about my situation by just being kind over and above her call of duty. She even used her own money to purchase hair products and detangling comb. She surprised me twice by coming in on her day off to work on my hair. It took her quite a few times before my hair was unknotted. Without her, I would have probably had to shave my head. I can't say enough good things about her, she is a kind, compassionate, loving, and awesome nurse. She made me feel good about myself which made me do better in therapy. I truly believe she was sent by God.
