Laura Jaramillo not only exhibits all that it means to be an amazing leader, but also an amazing nurse, person, and friend. Since the moment Laura stepped into the ACM role on level nine, she has given 100% to her team and our unit. She shows up ready to make an impact and be the change that the unit needs, no matter what the need is.

She is there to listen when you need a listening ear, there to give advice when you need direction, and there to support your growth and development to be the best version of yourself. She sees the best in everyone and wants each individual to be as successful as they wish to be.

When asking the unit what makes Laura such an exceptional leader, here are a few of the team members' responses:

“Laura is a bright light on our unit and is always approachable and understanding. She is compassionate, friendly, and kind. We are so lucky to have her as a leader on 9!”

“Laura always goes above and beyond for everyone. She jumps in as bedside, charge, or a great resource without hesitation.”

“Laura is the most caring and hard-working individual and cares deeply about the wellbeing of her coworkers. As charge, she always tries to optimize staffing to make the day flow as smoothly as possible, and she regularly checks in with staff to make sure breaks are taking place and assignments are appropriate. She is a critical thinker and questions systems that maybe aren’t functioning as optimally as they could. Every day that I see her brightens my day as she is a ray of positivity and sunshine for the unit. No matter how hard the day is, she is optimistic and uplifting to others!”

“Laura has stepped into her ACM role with passion and advocacy. Being under her direct supervision, I have learned so much about her heart for nursing and how that transfers to those she leads and to patients and their families. She will vocalize her thoughts and feelings, especially when there is a disservice being done to a patient. She has coached me through many scenarios that have required leadership abilities and meeting a person in the middle to find resolution. I look up to her as my leader!”

“Laura is a phenomenal leader! She is always thinking of ways she can be lending a hand or hearing someone out. On multiple occasions, she has come in early to help take charge shifts or ask how she can be helping out the bedside RNs. She leads by including everyone in decisions and will also ask for thoughts, ideas, and opinions about how to best care for everyone on the unit. She leads with humble expertise, and draws on experience from the outpatient world, and from her previous time on the 9th floor.”

Laura role models extraordinary behavior every day, from clinical expertise to compassionate care. Laura advocates fiercely and supports our staff in all that she does. She motivates us all to be better versions of ourselves and pushes our team to succeed. She has created an environment that strives to be better and work together for the betterment of our patients and our unit's morale.

There was even a day when a large snowstorm was approaching, and she spent the night in the hospital to lead by example and go the extra mile for her team. She truly cares with her whole heart, and it shows.

Laura is everything that it means to be an exceptional leader and DAISY Honoree.

Thank you, Laura, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
