It’s lovely to witness and an example for all of us to follow. Latanya never berates – it is her competence and grace that serves to reassure those around her.
Latanya consistently turns to acknowledge patients when they come to the nurses’ station. She’ll make eye contact, wave, and smile, and ask what they need. These kind and frequent gestures are not just reserved for her assigned patients. She ensures that almost all patients she interacts with feel “seen”. She is profoundly compassionate and sincere and follows through if they need help.

In the hallways, Latanya makes all patients’ needs her business when their own nurses are not available. She is also skilled at being quietly and decisively firm in establishing acceptable boundaries of behavior when patients are clearly “out of bounds”. It’s lovely to witness and an example for all of us to follow. Latanya never berates – it is her competence and grace that serves to reassure those around her. One nurse told me that she “always feels safe” when Latanya is the charge nurse.

When I have been her patient, her maturity and soft presence have been an elixir. Latanya has always embodied a spirit of kindness and responsiveness to my needs, whether it be a request for water or a PRN medication. She has even stayed beyond her shift to make sure that my needs during a difficult withdrawal from meds have been met. She won’t leave me waiting during shift change or until my next assigned nurse is available.

It’s hard to imagine another nurse who could outshine Latanya! I hope my comments are heard. Thank you.
