LaRae Mullis, RN
My son was in the NICU at Wellstar West Georgia for 9 days. During that time, LaRae was our nurse several nights. She was amazing with him, and he immediately calmed in her care. She provided exceptional care to our son, but I am nominating her because she also cared for my husband and me.
LaRae made sure we experienced important first moments with our baby, even though our journey was not a typical newborn experience. She ensured that I was able to give him his first bath. She took time to help me hold him and bond with him. LaRae was the only nurse during our stay who truly made us feel like we were supposed to be part of his care. She helped us learn to parent him while he was receiving hospital care.
She included us every step of the way and never made us feel like we were in the way. I also struggled at night and would spend time with him while my husband slept. LaRae made sure I returned to my room safely and would sit and talk with me whenever time allowed, helping me cope with the situation.
She is a true hero in my eyes. LaRae was a bright light during one of the darkest times of my life.
