Nurses like her make a difficult situation a bit easier on the heart.
Lara has been one of our consistent night nurses. She has taken such an interest in knowing our son, along with his likes and dislikes. But she also knows us as his parents. She knows our numbers by heart when we call. She knows the things we consistently ask and always has that info, and more, ready for our regular updates.

She makes us feel like part of the team, and her obvious, intentional care makes her feel like family to us. Recently, Lara let me help with night care, which included bath time. This was the first time I had been invited to join in his care. I got to share that first big mom moment with a nurse who takes care of him in detail, which made it all feel as easy as it can be in a hospital setting.

This extends to our other twin, whom she asks about as well. She wants to know about her milestones and well-being. It’s nice to have our other twin included, even though she’s a patient at a neighboring NICU. Lastly, I can always depend on Lara to keep us updated on big changes, even late into the night.
