In a time of isolation and disappointment, Lacey brought warmth, connection, and comfort.
I would like to recognize Lacey Christie for the extraordinary compassion, empathy, and dedication she consistently shows to her patients – especially during their most difficult moments.
Recently, Lacey was caring for two patients who were each facing heartbreaking personal circumstances while hospitalized. One patient had just learned he would miss his daughter’s wedding due to his medical condition. The other patient, who had just been diagnosed with cancer on the same day his first grandchild was born, realized he would not be able to attend the birth.
Both patients were devastated to miss such meaningful life milestones – events they had looked forward to with great anticipation. Lacey recognized their emotional pain and went above and beyond her clinical duties to bring comfort in a deeply personal way. During her shift, she visited the hospital gift shop and thoughtfully selected sentimental greeting cards tailored to each patient’s situation.
But she didn’t stop there. Lacey brought the cards back to the unit and invited the entire staff to sign them with heartfelt messages of love, hope, and support.
The impact of this small but powerful gesture was immediate and profound. These cards became more than just paper – they were tangible reminders that each patient was seen, supported, and cared for by an entire team. In a time of isolation and disappointment, Lacey brought warmth, connection, and comfort.
Her actions exemplify the true spirit of nursing – not only tending to her patients’ physical needs, but also nurturing their emotional and spiritual well-being. She reminds us all that healing often begins with empathy and the smallest acts of kindness.
Lacey shows unwavering compassion and the ability to bring light to her patients’ darkest days. She is a shining example of what it truly means to be a nurse.
