June 2026 Honoree
Kyle Harper, RN
Kyle had a psych patient who was going to be transferred to Memphis from Chattanooga because that was the first hospital that called with acceptance. Kyle called the patient's mother, who is elderly but lives with the patient, to notify her about the plan. She became very distraught over the phone and did not want the patient to be transferred that far away from her.
Kyle could have told her that transferring the patient to the first available hospital was the process in the ER and not done anything further, but he didn't. He went above and beyond to try to find the patient a bed at a psych facility closer to home for the patient and the mother's wellbeing. He made calls to the house admin and escalated to the charge nurse in attempts to help the patient.
Due to Kyle's compassion and excellent patient advocacy, we were able to find a psych facility in Chattanooga and keep the patient close to his family. Kyle also received praise and much gratitude from the patient's family for being so kind throughout the process and for caring about this patient.
Kyle took the time to review this patient and his overall care, and to determine what would be in the patient's best interest. He took extra steps that were not required of him while also working a busy shift with other ER patients. We would all be lucky to have a nurse like Kyle looking out for us!

My father was brought in by ambulance, and Kyle stepped in to give him care during a difficult time. He was compassionate, showed a caring spirit, and provided my sister and me with appropriate humor to help ease our tension. He went above and beyond and was so kind.
Kyle's attention to detail was amazing. He was thorough, and I believe his attention to detail was what helped my father the most. He was able to get appropriate treatment quickly.
He showed that he was very knowledgeable, showed a caring spirit, and provided my sister and me with excellent updates on what was happening and provided excellent care to my father.
He is the perfect example of what I envision someone in nursing should be when it's a calling, rather than just a job.
