September 2026 Honoree
Krystal Payne, RN
Krystal Payne consistently demonstrates a deep compassion for our elderly patients and their families. Recently, she cared for a swing bed patient in her 80s whose husband, also elderly, remained at her bedside day and night. Krystal discovered that he had difficulty seeing at night and in rainy conditions, making it unsafe for him to leave the hospital, especially during a severe storm with potential flooding one Saturday morning. With the hospital cafeteria closed on weekends, this created a significant challenge.
Despite initial resistance, Krystal advocated persistently, going up the chain of command to secure approval for a guest meal tray. Because of her dedication, she was able to provide the patient's husband with three hot meals that day, ensuring he could stay safe while continuing to support his wife. Krystal's actions exemplify both compassion and determination. Her willingness to go the extra mile made a meaningful impact, and the couple was deeply grateful for the care and thoughtfulness she showed during a difficult time.
