She went above and beyond her actual nursing duties to make my brother-in-law's first hospital stay more tolerable.
My brother-in-law is in the hospital. He has been here for 8 days now. He had 2 strokes. When we took him to emergency, his blood pressure was very high, and they have had issues since then getting it under control. With everything else his poor body has had to deal with, we also found out he has type 2 diabetes. He has been given injections, medications, and IVs, and they still couldn't get anything under control. It's been very scary, frustrating, and sometimes difficult to understand why specifically his BP was having such an issue. Then Kristine came on her shift. My sister-in-law and I came early Saturday morning, as we have since my brother-in-law was admitted, and at the door to his room was a young RN who greeted us with a smile and asked us whom we were visiting and how we were related to the patient. She then came in with us and started her exam. She was very gentle and understanding of the fact that he only spoke Spanish and that I was going to interpret for him. I asked many questions about everything. She was so patient and explained everything about his BP, diabetes, and what he was being given for medications. I asked more questions, and she explained what the stroke had done to his face and throat area, explaining very thoroughly. He had suffered the night previous with very bad nausea and vomited. I mentioned the metformin, and she agreed it could be possible. She then contacted his diabetes doctor, and the doctor came in personally to change the dosing on his diabetes meds to stop the nausea. Kristine is an absolutely phenomenal nurse and very kind human being. She went above and beyond her actual nursing duties to make my brother-in-law's first hospital stay more tolerable. For every question I asked, for anything I needed from him, she helped us. Her patient skills are perfect. Every unit she works, she will be a jewel. I would definitely nominate her, hands down! Thank you so much, Kristine!
