The Nurse Leadership Team proudly nominates Kristin Anthony for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Her career reflects exceptional dedication to patient care, nursing leadership, and advocacy for the profession.
Kristin began her nursing journey in 1981 as a CNA and advanced to Maternal Child Health roles before earning her BSN from Augustana College in 1984. She served as a staff and charge nurse in Labor and Delivery and later held diverse positions including office nurse, recruiter, educator, and perinatal homecare nurse, reinforcing her commitment to patient-centered care.
In 1995, Kristin transitioned into leadership, a role she has embraced for over 30 years. She earned her master’s in nursing leadership in 2005, strengthening her ability to guide teams through change.
Since joining MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital in 2015 as Chief Nursing Officer, Kristin has provided strategic oversight across nursing units, surgical services, behavioral health, and education. Her leadership has driven major achievements:
• Magnet re-designation (2019) and preparation for Pathway to Excellence (2026)
• EPIC implementation for Acute Care SeHR (2021)
• Organizational merger with MaineHealth and Parkview-Adventist Medical Center
• Incident Command leadership during COVID-19
• Advocacy for nurse staffing legislation in Maine
• Mentorship in leadership transitions and clinical ladder redesign
Kristin leads with authenticity and compassion, often engaging directly with patients and staff. She champions initiatives such as LEAN process improvement and elevates nurses’ voices at every level. Her influence extends beyond professional accomplishments—she is a respected colleague and mentor whose integrity and patient-first philosophy inspire all who work with her.
Kristin’s contributions include three Magnet designations, nationally recognized research in fall prevention, and unwavering advocacy for nursing excellence. She also led our Nursing Leadership Team through the Magnet4Europe initiative alongside our colleagues at Lovisenberg Hospital in Norway. The goal was to improve the mental health, wellbeing, and retention of nurses as well as patient safety and outcomes. Her guiding principle—doing the right thing for the right reasons—has impacted thousands of patients and nurses, shaping healthier communities. Her legacy exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
