Kristin is doing bed control, we know that we are going to be in the best position to turnover beds and provide care to our patients.
I don’t know what it is that Kristin Davis does, but HOLY COW… can we feel it when she’s on.  For context:

The EDs across Sac County had a particularly gnarly day with higher-than-normal volumes and admit holds.  As a current state of affairs (I’m writing this at 2230), UCDMC is at 200 patients in the ED (72 admit holds), SSC is at 133 (55 admit holds), Sutter Med is 102 (29 holds) … and it goes on and on. And yet, we only have 2 admit holds right now (1 ICU waiting for a COVID swab and 1 Tele with orders that just populated).

In her practice, not only does Kristin seem to be able to maximize the inpatient capacity, but she does a phenomenal job at keeping us informed. Managing a department this size is dynamic and requires constant re-triage of priorities, so more information is better. We know which admits have planned beds and we know to anticipate how our ED-Inpatient transfers will go (how many beds assigned, which units we’re going to be hammering).

It is days like today that really highlight her strengths and ability to decompress this ED.  I know that it is a team approach towards running the house, but when Kristin is doing bed control, we know that we are going to be in the best position to turnover beds and provide care to our patients. The ED would like to express an appreciation for how Kristin handled the house today and how that translated to the community and our patients.
