My daughter R was stillborn and Kristien took care of me that day — she made the birth bearable despite the fact I knew my baby would be stillborn. Kristien encouraged my husband and I to set up the hospital room according to our original birth plan (dim lighting, fairy lights, music) so that our baby could be brought into the world in a nice environment and as close as possible to what we intended. I can't thank her enough for that. We were ready to give up all niceties from our birth plan once we got the sad news that our daughter was no longer with us. Kristien affirmed and legitimized my wishes to hold my daughter and do skin to skin with her right after her birth. Kristien went above and beyond, cleaning R up and helping us take a few pictures to remember our baby by - she also arranged for footprints to be taken and for the hospital photographer to visit us. Not once did I worry about the medical aspects of our daughter's birth because of the confidence, care, and awareness that Kristien brought to our room. She even came to check in on us in the maternity ward a day later. Kristien made us so comfortable, and she (along with our midwife) transformed what I thought would be an emotionally and physically agonizing experience into a beautiful one. We will cherish the memory box she created for R as well as the pictures, and I will never forget her kindness and excellent care during a very difficult time.
